More?

I need some opinions. Today was the fourth morning in a row where Mia has done this thing with her hands in response to me asking and signing "more" to her.
So am I reading too much into this? Is she trying to sign "more"? What do y'all think?

And for those that don't know the sign for "more" ... a demonstration.

Could be! Run, don't walk and get the Signing Times DVD's. I gave mine away or I'd send them but they are great and will help at this age

I would have to say that it is without a doubt her beginning version of more. It's not quite what they show in the video but she is consistent with her hand motion and I think that is what is important!! My sister-in'law did this with her little one too and it was great!!

It's absolutely "more"!!! She's doing great! She learned it so fast! My boys both started signing around 7 months. And at first most of their signs weren't like mine were. I actually adapted a few to make it easier for them to sign. You can try getting her to sign "more" for play time too. It's fun to stop in the middle of something she really enjoys and ask if she wants more. I think in the beginning my boys both thought "more" actually meant eat because that was the easiest time to work on it. But once we started using it for other activities they figured it out pretty fast. AJ started out by clapping his hands to mean "more". All that matters is that you know what she is saying :)To sign "all done" I changed it so that I just held my hands straight out to the sides with my palms facing out. That way it required much less fine motor and they were able to do it pretty well. For "help" I put one hand on the opposite wrist and moved my arms up about 6-8 inches. They both did that really well too. Alan did it by clasping both hands and raising them over his head. It was the cutes thing! Signing was one of the best things I did with my boys. I think it eliminated a lot of frustration since they were able to communicate so well when they were so young.

What a cutie! I agree, it sure looks like that's her version of the "more" sign :)

I too, think this is her trying to sign "more". Just remember, it doesn't have to match the ASL sign exactly, you can make up your own version of different signs together.

Yes, I believe it is her version. She knows to put her hands together, she just doesn't have the motor skills YET....she also knows her name well. She turned to look at you both times you said it. She IS a genius.

Possibly!

Morning - the third and fourth were definatly more signs (with out the fine motor skills she's too young to have yet!!)

But you missed one - she also signed 'Love' a couple times...

We've used ASL with our younger three and it really lessens the "terrible two's and three's" because the child's (and parent's) frustration level over communications is way lessened!

Baby signing time - must have videos - and you can find them at most libraries if you want to 'try before you buy'!

hugs - welcome to the 'new normal'!!

Just like whey they're learning to talk they personalize the way they say and do things. I'd say it's her 'more' for sure and it's adorable!!

Another recomendation for the Baby Signing Times DVD's. Hannah loved these from the time she was Mia's age until she was over 18 months old and at one point had a signing vocabulary of over 50 signs. I borrowed mine from a friend and a local library so you might want to check there.

Yep, she's signing!!! My little Tonggu-er signed milk (which I used for bottle) after she was only home for one week - at 10 months old. And I totally freaked too!!! I thought NO WAY could she be signing... but she was!

After that I used the Signing Time Videos and by the time she was 2 she knew over 400 signs! No kidding! And subsequently, she knew her colors and letters early. AND, the real reason I wanted to use sign language, she RARELY had meltdowns! I contribute that to the fact that she could communicate her wants and desires to me.

My Tonggu-er is now 6 and we hardly sign anymore... but the other day she had left her flipflops at one end of the park and I was at the other end and she was walking towards me. I didn't want to yell "Grab Your Shoes!", so I signed SHOES, she had to pause and think for a second - but she got a HUGE smile on her face and then raced back to grab her shoes.

Keep Signing! It's a beautiful thing!

Don't know if it's signing, but it's awfully cute, and if you understand what it means, then she is communicating with you!

Probably. If she does the same thing in the same context, yes.

I'd say YES! The first time Aislinn signed "more" was only a week after we got her but she used our fingers instead of hers. Great job mom~ She is too cute.

I totally think she's signing more! She's doing the same thing each time and then stops. What a quick learner!! Jenny LOVED signing and still uses a lot of signs even when she says the word. Your girl is just beautiful momma!!

Oh she is TOTALLY doing it!! That is awesome! She is such a quick learner! My middle guy did something similar when he was about 6 months with more, he started to tap one palm against his arm sorta like she is doing and then wait for me to give him more. At about 8 months he started doing it more the "regular" way. HOW FUN! She is just too super cute, too :)

Yes, I would say it is. Jazzie's initial signs were nothing like the true, official sign. If it's consistent, it's a sign. Keep signing!!!!

Oh absolutely it is more. As others have said. Keep showing her the correct sign and she'll get there.

Sure looks like Mia is signing "more". My children's initial signs were related to food, and "more" was my older daughter's first sign...asking more more Cheerios. I really like the Signing Times DVD. When they show the children's approximations, you will see signs that are their attempts to communicate, just like what Mia is doing. You are such an awesome mom! Have you started with "all done"? I thought that one was so important for avoiding stress. I wanted to know when my kiddos were "all done"...Mia is lucky to have you as her mama.
