Mia had her appointment this morning with the opthamologist. I was concerned about her eyes and anxious to get a true diagnosis. I'd noticed her eyes seemed to turn in from time to time. It was most noticeable in photos.
When others started to mention it, I realized I wasn't just imagining it. You can really see it in the photo below.
It's very common in Asian infants because they tend to have a wide, flat area instead of a true bridge of the nose between the eyes. It causes the eyes to sometimes appear crossed or like one is a lazy eye.
There's no treatment... which I was happy to hear. I was worried we might be patching or having a surgery. The eye doctor said she will most likely grow out of it eventually as her face ages and changes shape.
Mia was an absolute trooper for her exam. I was so proud of her. Apparently, dark brown eyes are hard to read so they had to dilate them twice with a long stretch of time in between. And even then they were still only half dilated. Not a tear was shed even though they held her down and forced the drops in. Luckily, they're used to it and get it done super quick.
We were there almost two hours and started creeping into morning nap time. But my girl did fabulously. She was so well behaved and only started to lose it a bit towards the end when she was getting tired and cranky. But I don't blame her. I wouldn't want some strange guy poking around my eyeball either. Even if I was in the best of moods.
And of course, everyone at the doctor's office fell in love with her. No one yet has been able to resist her dimpled smile. And check out those adorable little teeth.

On a side note.. thanks to my cousin "Sarah in MT" who sent us the funny "I just want to pee alone" magnet. Cute. And oh so true....

I am so glad you posted this. Zac has one eye that does the same thing every now and then. The pediatrician never noticed it. I usually don't see it unless, like you said, it was in a picture.
Mia is such a trooper! She's so cute!!
I have strabismus. Wish it was psuedo.
That girl is crazy cute.
We had this with our first daughter as well. We stopped noticing this in photos around two years old. Glad to hear this was "psuedo" as well.
So glad your diagnosis was so good! Yay Mia!!
LOL about the magnet. Hannah was home a very short time when I began to sing (to the tune of 'I'll Never Walk Alone') I'll never pee alone! Honestly, it's still very true today although it's an added challenge now when my curious toddler wants to check out what's happening in the stall next to ours whenin a public restroom. Yikes!
Have a great weekend!
I am SO glad you shared this... Shauna is the same but it isn't as 'bad' as it was...
So glad to hear the news!! When Reagan was first home, I noticed this in a lot of her photos, but when you looked at her in person, I could never see it. Like your dr said, they grow out of it as their face changes..... I do not notice it nearly as much in Reagan as I did when she was younger.
Gosh, how could they not fall in love with her.......she is BEAUTIFUL and seems to have the personality to match!
Enjoy your weekend~
xoxo,
Lisa
Good news for you. Your daughter is growing cuter, especially when she smiles.

Just today I took my little Butterfly for a routine eye check (all's o.k) and boy did she cry and fuss and give them a hard time! Not so much putting the eye drops in her eyes (oh my, how lucky we are she has fair eyes!) but the exam that comes after that. It was already her nap time and she was scared (and peed right through her nappy onto me!) and oh.. So a double bravo for you little one for going through it so fabulously!
And good to hear there's nothing to worry about her eye crossing!
Lily has the same thing. We were thinking a patch or surgery may be in the future for her too but the pediatric eye doctor said it's an illusion and should resolve in the next year or so. He did say she would need glasses some day...how you can tell that with a 9 month old I just don't know.
I'm so glad Mia had a good outcome and she is a trooper for putting up with those drops and the exam so well. I can't believe our babies are getting so big!!
My oh my she is such a doll baby! I'm glad I found your other site. Precious...just precious.
